Luxury CBD store owner shines on Instagram
In 2019, wellness advocate Vivian Fellman opened Kota Organics, a premium CBD shop in Fargo.
The store is beautiful.
It’s an elegant, illuminating space featuring bright, white walls and custom wood shelving. The decor, as well as the products, are simple and elegant.
I know this without ever having stepped inside Vivian’s store.
A Brand Made for IG
Vivian’s absolute gem of an Instagram profile for Kota Organics does everything you’d want an Instagram account to do for your business:
Photos of the store are true to Vivian’s brand — clean, airy, bright and natural.
Product images and descriptions educate people about what a specific tincture or oil does.
Vivian also uses social in general as a platform for dispelling myths and quelling concerns about CBD usage. Bonus points for being educational but not pushy!
Most importantly, her conversational voice complements many aspects of her business goals, like promoting safe, premium, organic products, teaching patrons how to get the most out of microdosing, and promoting family — and pet — wellness with her adorable resident canine, Chunk.
Vivian’s Content Strategy Is All Organic, Too
Almost as impressive as the bravery it took to open a CBD shop in a conservative red state like North Dakota, is the incredible amount of content produced for social.
Vivian posts Kota Organic content to three different platforms and somehow manages to post three times a day, 7 days a week, without a scheduling platform.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed.
In less than 90 days Kota accumulated a combined audience just shy of a thousand viewers without ads. Did I mention they don’t use a scheduling platform?
For those of us who have managed social media, we know this is an incredible feat. I spoke with Vivian Fellman, owner and operator of Kota Organics, in awe of her energy to share her company’s mission and wondering how she did it all.
Why Instagram?
Her favorite platform is Instagram and, since she doesn’t use a scheduling platform, she posts the same content from Instagram to Facebook and Twitter. She does this three times a day, morning, early afternoon and early evening. In addition to that she will occasionally post to her Google My Business profile.
Photo Usage And Design
Her photos are stunning. Her camera is her iPhone but she clearly has an eye for design. The creativity used to display her products is evident in her posts. She will also share some of her partner’s photos, suppliers of the CBD products, and credit their image. She says her partners fully support and encourage the sharing of those images.
Vivian takes advantage of the free version of Canva to create some of her quote posts. Coincidentally, she hired a part-time sales associate who just happened to be a graphic design major and helped her come up with a theme and color palette for those text images.
Scheduling?
When I asked her if she uses a content calendar or scheduling method I found my jaw on the floor once again. She does not. She does, however, have certain themes she tries to create content within.
Her themes are wellness, quotes, product highlights, client highlights or store items or events. “I also have some accounts I follow from California and New York for inspiration,” she said.
Real-Time Effort
Kota Organics profiles makes social media look effortless.
Vivian has built organic, real-time content into her day. And the result is beautiful, engaging content for her audience.
I asked her if she ever gets stressed out trying to think of things to post and she said, “No, I don’t ever really get stressed about it,” she said. “Sometimes it gets hard because it’s just me. I have looked into some scheduling platforms but just haven’t decided on any.”
I can’t wait to watch Kota Organics grow and serve this community. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for all the ideas and inspo!
A Little ABC About CBD
CBD is short for Cannabidiol, a chemical in the Cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana or hemp. Kota Organics is extremely passionate about only providing products derived from Hemp. You can find more information on Kota Organic’s website, but their products are either THC free (0% THC) or have a very low THC level (<0.03%). This allows for higher CBD intake with no psychoactive effects of THC. Marijuana has a much higher THC content (>4%) than hemp.
